Abstract

This review forwards the benefits of music for older adults. Two strong components were found within the research considered. The first is using music as an element that benefits older adults, i.e., experiences of music therapy practices and the application of educational programmes in older adults were identified. The second is a component related to the musical experience and its
impact throughout life in this population. It is concluded that music favours different biopsychosocial aspects of older adults; in particular, it contributes to their physiological, psychological, emotional, cognitive, social and existentialspiritual well-being. This is by the musical relationship that each person develops throughout their lives.
