Abstract

Introduction. Pre eclampsy is a pathology considered as the main cause of maternal mortality in Colombia. It has been linked to several factors; however, upon reviewing the scientific literature, it can be noticed the significant discrepancies regarding risk factors associated with the presentation of this health care- provider institution. This study aimed at identifying the main risk factors associated with pre eclampsy in pregnant women at a primary care hospital. Method. A case and control study was carried out, with a 1:3 ratio in pregnant women attending prenatal control at Rosario Hospital in 2011. As cases (n=31) pre -eclampsy-diagnosed patients were included and as control (n=93) those women attending prenatal control during this period. It was analyzed the association between pre eclampsy and age, residence area, schooling, gynecology and obstetrics history (gestations, parity, abortions, cesarean section, intergenesic interval) schooling level, nutrition, family and personal history of - pre eclampsy. Results. There were no statistically significant differences in the variables age (p=0,314), residence area(p=0,54), schooling (p=0,558), prenatal control (p=0.566), gestations (p=0,409), abortions (p=0,056), intergenesic interval (p=0.654), weight gain (p=0.069), nutritional status first control control (p=0.833), nutritional status, last control (p=0.352), family history of pre eclampsy (p=0.562), personal clinical records (p=0.261), obstetric risk classification (p=0,768), history of previous complications (p=0.349). Conclusions. It was not shown statistically significant difference in the variables age, residence area, schooling, prenatal control, parity, gestations, abortions, cesarean sections, intergenesic interval, malnutrition, obstetric risk classification, personal and family pathologic history.
