Abstract

This article presents the performance evaluation of the compressive strength parallel to the fiber, made by a multifactorial analysis of variance, in the Guadua Angustifolia specimens, in relation to factors such as area, culm or stem section and the presence of knots. The samples studied were collected from four zones in the municipality of Pitalito and one in the municipality of Timaná in southern Huila. Colombia and were tested in the Instituto de Extensión e Investigación (M) at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá. The methodology for cutting the culms, obtain samples and testing compressive strength, was based on NTC5300, NTC5525, NSR10 and ISO / TC 165N315 standards, and also the protocols for cuíting culms and samples, and determining the compressive strength parallel to the grain of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia m Bogotá. The average compressive strength parallel to the grain of 130 samples was 38.0 MPa. The multifactorial ANOVA helped to identify the statistical significance of the section factor on compression resistance with a p-value less than 0.05 and a confidence level of 95%, higher values were found for the top. The zone and presence of knots like the second order interactions were not significant factors.
