Dossier Especial Centenario La Vorágine

In 2021 the celebrations surrounding the centenary of the publication of the book of poems Tierra de Promisión were discreet at the regional and national level. The Governor's Office of Huila, through the Secretariat of Culture and Tourism, paid tribute by declaring that year as the centenary year of the magnificent poetic anthology and inaugurated in the Olegario Rivera Departmental Library, the painting exhibition “Artists paint the Land of Promise”. There were also other activities such as poetry readings, literary centers and talks about the poet's life.
As members of the academic community we wanted to join the poetic tribute and in order to sound out the interest and willingness of university colleagues both nationally and internationally, we approached them and invited them to participate with academic works dedicated to Tierra de Promisión. Our call failed to attract them, their interest in Rivera was limited to La Vorágine and therefore there was nothing to say. Since there were no academic works for the centenary of Tierra de Promisión, it was not possible to offer a dossier for issue 26 of 2021. However, an interesting exercise was carried out which consisted in proposing to foreign colleagues the translation into their mother tongues of Rivera's poetic autobiography, that is, El hombre que fue río and the poem that opens the anthology, Soy un grávido río....
