Abstract

After a brief historical-political location of the time, from the collection of various sources on the different facts and political circumstances experienced by the writer José Eustasio Rivera, the answer is given to the question of whether or not he was politically persecuted, focusing the investigation on deciphering through his own statements and those of some authors, his thoughts in relation to the persecution he was subjected to, as a consequence of his ideas on education, his complaints about the abandonment of our borders and violations of human rights of his compatriots (collected literarily and poetically in The Vortex, his masterpiece), as well as state corruption, of which he was a researcher and witness, which finally led him to feel like a "voluntary exile" in New York.
