El estatus epiléptico (EE) es una emergencia neurológica con morbilidad y mortalidad asociadas. Su rápido abordaje
diagnóstico y terapéutico es clave para lograr resultados favorables. Para su manejo se dispone de numerosos fármacos,
de los cuales solo algunos tienen estudios con evidencia sólida y, por tanto, muchas de las conductas aún se basan en
recomendaciones de expertos. Se requiere descartar procesos patológicos potencialmente mortales basado en una historia
cuidadosa, un examen físico y estudios de extensión según la causa sospechada. Aquí se revisará el enfoque para el
diagnóstico y tratamiento inicial de los pacientes que acuden al servicio de urgencias con diagnóstico de EE.
