Prevalence of drug interactions in the Department of Internal Medicine at Hospital Universitario Hernando Moncaleano Perdomo-cross sectional study

Objectives. To characterize drug interactions that took place at University Hospital Hernando Moncaleano Perdomo. Material and methods. Cross sectional descriptive study, with 130 patients admitted to Department of Internal Medicine located on the sixth floor of HUHMP Data analysis was carried outwith epi.Infov7.0. Results. It was found 702 theoretical interactions. There as a median of 3 interactions per patient. 73% of patients had a drug interaction,from which 93.3 were significant. Most frequent diagnosis were: HBP (HighBloodPressure) (12.3%), followed by neoplasm (11.5%), heartfailure (8.4%), type 2 diabetes mellitus (6.9%), CVE (cerebro-vascularevent) ischemic (3.8%), acute myocardial infarction (3.8%), heartdisease (3.1%), chronic kidney disease (3.8%),sepsis (7.7%), and tensión headache(6.2%). Conclusions. Pharmacodynamic interactions represent 71.8% of all data and the most frequent were those of synergism with potentiation (55.2%).
