Abstract

There are few people who know the life of Rufino José Cuervo and much less those who have studied his immense work. However, this Bogotano born in 1844 is one of the most recognized Spanish philologists in the academic world.

His passion for the science of languages led him to dedicate himself to enormous projects, such as the Dictionary of Construction and the Spanish Language Regime, one of his most outstanding researches, which examines the evolution and origin of grammar and syntax of many words. This work, completed in 1994 by the Caro y Cuervo Institute based on its
original annotations and in the two volumes that he managed to publish while still alive, is considered today as the greatest grammatical and syntactic monument of the Castilian language. There are eight volumes that contain more than 8,000 pages in which they are analyzed
